Sunlight Readable LCDs

A display becomes less viewable in a bright ambient light. In a bright ambient environment, the light from the sun competes with the light from the display and the perceived contrast goes down.

There are 2 main approaches to making a LCD sunlight readable:
  1. Higher brightness via brighter backlight
  2. Higher brightness via 'transflective' technology
Ascenstar's High Brightness Sunlight Readable Displays have brightness levels from 700 nits to 2000 nits and certainly outperform commercially available non-enhanced products that washout in direct and/or indirect sunlight conditions.

Although a display with less than 500 nits screen brightness and a mere 2 to 1 contrast ratio can be read in outdoor environments, the quality of the display will be extremely poor. Ascenstar's high brightness monitors deliver a radically higher level of brightness, resulting in unparalleled picture sharpness. Our high-performance products are ideal for use under any high ambient light condition, and will give you the intensity and brilliance your application requires. A truly sunlight readable display is typically considered to be an LCD with 700 nits or greater screen brightness. In outdoor environments, such a display can provide an excellent image quality.
